The Origin of the Activity
After visiting an aquarium, the children saw a big shark model made by the children of another class and became excited to make their own model.

The First Activity: Making the plan and gathering group members
First, the children drew a sketch, Ziming and Zihao working as a team. Seven children joined to get the effort, and the teacher wrote the names of the group on the sketch.

The Second Activity: Adjusting the plan and describing the sperm whale
The children wanted to make a 5-meter-long whale model, but they found out that the classroom was not big enough, so they decided to make a 3-meter model.

The Third Activity: Making a long ruler and perceiving the length of the sperm whale
The 3-meter-long whale model was finished. The children learned from a book that the longest whale is about 15.6 meters, so they wanted to make a ruler of 15.6 meters to see what it looks like in the original.

After the ruler was finished, it was unfolded and taken to the playground. The children ran along the ruler and read the scale from one meter to 15.6 meters. Then the teacher asked, “How many children can make 15.6 meters?” Some children lay on the ruler one by one, others counted the number, and they learned that the combined length of 14 children could make 15.6 meters whale size.
